TAN HA DOWR
Young, Creative, Cornish, Experimental, Traditional, Fun, Friends, Tours, Festivals, Events, Workshops, Music, Dance
Tan ha Dowr are a young Cornish dance and music group. The group was started up in by young people who were interested in Cornish music and dance, but wanted to do something more exciting and experimental with it, to make it more up to date and relevant for them. The group has expanded and developed throughout the years, but the main reason for its existence has stayed the same; to meet up with friends, to try out Cornish dancing/music, to experiment with these traditions, to have a go at other people's traditional music/dance, to be creative and to have fun!
As well as the usual meet ups, Tan ha Dowr are involved in:
Performing at local events
Touring to international events (we have been to to festivals in America, France, Ireland and the Isle of Man)
Workshops: learning about other kinds of music and dance as well as Cornish (e.g. African and Irish)
The Annual Cornish dance competitions
Parties! (Usually at Christmas and before we break up for the Summer holidays!)
Tan ha Dowr means 'Fire and Water' in Cornish, themes which are reflected in the colour of our costumes.
AWARD WINNERS!
Tan ha Dowr have won numerous awards at the Annual Cornish Dance Competitions, and received the Cornish Gorseth Treverva Shield for work with young people.
