" A different version under the Title ‘The Buffalo’ as publishedin Barrets English Folk Songs 1891 with the NOTES ‘ this is an emigrantssong and possibly belongs to the early part of the 18th Century. It was verypopular with londoners ‘. Another version can be found in Baring Gouldspapers sung by J Benny, a butcher at Menheniot. Mr Pascoe told me thatd thatMorton Nance remembered his father singing it and suggested it might be of Americanorigin."
