BACKGROUND INFORMATION This dance was choreographed by Beverley J. Cuthbert in February 1996, and is inspired by the Clay Industry. The movements suggest:- The water washing the clay along a small river into settlement lagoons (the chorus). The dissolving walls from where the clay was removed (Broom Stick step). The resulting white mountain left behind (Mrs Parkin’s Jig). The Set-to signifies a good job done at the end of the day. DANCE NOTATIONS Formation
Solo dance Bars 1-8
On toes step right, left, right, kick the floor beside right toe with heel, repeat starting with left foot, then kick with right heel and step with right foot, followed by left heel and step, then right heel and step. Repeat this step again. (Similar to Cock in Britches) 9-16
Chorus
8 slow Mr Martins Reel steps to form a sideways figure of eight, Starting in the centre and turning to the right clockwise for 4 to the centre, stamp, then 4 more steps to left anti-clockwise to reach centre once more. 17-32
Broom Stick step: Right foot is crossed over left and (still stepping on left foot) tapped:
1)Beside the left foot
2)In front of the left foot
3)To the right of the left foot
4) Stepping finally on both feet at once side by side. This is repeated 8 times whilst rotating clockwise to arrive back in place. 33-40

Mrs Parkin’s step – Step shuffle right foot, step shuffle left foot, tap right toe behind, tap left toe behind. 4 of these steps moving forward then 4 moving back. 57-64

Moving to right, set-to right: step right, left, right and kick with left, Then left, right, left and pivot on left to turn backwards, repeat this step to end up facing front again. 73 – 80
