Trip to Truro

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Informant

Johnson's Twenty four Country dances for (1765 p67) The dance was originally a longways triple minor set in which case couples 1 and 3 would hey for 4 changes so that at the end of B2 in the 3 couple set couples would be in the order 2 1 3 and the 2 hand turn would be omitted. The duple minor formation would be fun as a social dance. The original music shows the a and b music repeated each time. How the music here makes the dance more lively albeit shorter. A trip to Truro was adapted from the original by John Mosedale and the tune arranged by Jeff Jones, both of Dawnswyr Coety (Coety Folk Dancers). The original was found in the archives of the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library at Cecil sharp house to whom thanks are due. Dawnswyr Coety have been visiting Lowender Peran the annual Inter-Celtic festival at Perranporth in Cornwall with their friends Tipyn o Bopeth for a number of years. Dancing in the pretty streets of Truro has been a highlight of those annual trips to Cornwall. So the title of the dance naturally caught ones eye! In it's small way, the dance is dedicated both to our Cornish celtic cousins, whose hospitality is always worth travelling for, and to Tipyn O bopeth, a collection of dancers and musicians from all over Wales, whose company allows us to dance in places and meet people we would never otherwise see. Our grateful thanks to both."
