Mummers Plays

Historically Mummers Plays in Cornwall were probably linked to performances in the plen an gwary but follow the universal European themes of Good, Bad, Life, Death and Resurrection. Traditionally done in Cornwall at various times of the year, one mummer’s play was associated with turkey rhubarb performed at Christmas in Madron. A living tradition today is the St Piran’s Mummers Play performed during St Piran’s tide by members of the Bolingey Troyl Band and Dancers. This is an evolving story surrounding St Piran linking historical legend with contemporary experiences of people in Perranporth.
