Mock Mayors

The electing of a ‘Mock Mayor’ is Cornish tradition which has been kept strongly alive by the community in Polperro. Each year on the Saturday before Midsummer’s eve Polperro elects a mock mayor. The mayor and entourage of guizers and Cornish Piper perambulate around the village distributing Polperro “Banknotes” and inspecting the quality of the beer in the local inns. When all tasks are completed the Mayor is taken to the water in the harbour – and dropped in!
